Ko Tākuta Hana Merenea O’Regan ONZM tētahi toa reo Māori whakahirahira, he mātanga kura wānanga hoki i whānau mai ki Te Whanganui a Tara. Dr. Hana Merenea O'Regan ONZM is a prominent te reo Māori advocate and academic who was born in Wellington. She pursued her education at Victoria University, where she obtained a BA in Māori studies and political science in 1993. Continuing her academic journey, O'Regan completed postgraduate studies at the University of Otago, earning a master's degree in 1998. Later, she obtained a PhD from Auckland University of Technology in 2017.

Throughout her career, O'Regan has held various roles, including researcher, tutor, and writer. She has been actively involved in promoting the Māori language, serving on the Māori Language Commission since 2003. In addition, she has contributed to numerous panels, including the Flag Consideration Panel for the New Zealand flag referendums. In 2021 she was appointed to the Waitangi Tribunal.

O'Regan's written works primarily focus on Kāi Tahu tribal stories and histories, showcasing her dedication to preserving and sharing Māori culture and heritage through literature.
